Lapsang souchang,  nicknamed ‘the originator of black tea’ as it was the first Black Tea ever created. It became popular due to its unique smoky aroma, delivered through drying the tea over pine wood fires.

It was first created in the tongmu region, which has adequate moisture and fresh air, located in wuyishan city of the Fujian province. Only the tea farmers and invited visitors can be permitted to go into this area, which is a natural reserve with sufficient precipitation and sharp differences in temperature perfect for growing tea. This policy aims to decrease the amount of man-made sabotage in order to keep the natural geographic environment intact for better growth of tea trees.

For example, a great amount of defoliation (the premature removal of grass parts, usually leaves) is the perfect fertilizer for tea plants, this may be stepped excessively by the extra activity of the human beings. Without enough fertilizer, the tea trees may not grow too high to come into good-quality tea leaves. This is because the higher tea leaves  picked, the more superior quality of black tea. Hence, it is universally acknowledged that the best Lapsang souchong comes from the tongmu region, which is also the supply place of our YiTea.
